Do you know what this thing is? This is called RAM, which stands for Random-Access Memory. RAM is used for storing data on apps currently being used, it is for temporary fast-access to hold data and instructions that the CPU needs to run active applications.
Now if you have read the title of this article, you would know that RAM is going missing, well specifically DDR4 and 5 D-RAM (D-RAM are the typical RAM sticks).
There is a shortage in RAM due to AI, yes artificial intelligence. The ChatGPT that helps some with homework is taking your RAM, this is because AI servers need enormous amounts of memory (especially High-Bandwidth Memory / HBM) to function and to train AI Models. You may be wondering, "How does this affect RAM?". Well the same manufacturers making HBM are the same ones responsible for RAM, so due to the extremely high demand on AI, the manufacturers started focusing less and less on RAM. This caused the prices for RAM to skyrocket.
Here is an example of the price shooting up, I've even seen RAM kits going for $1000+ which is absurd. This is why PC gaming is getting a lot more expensive, just to get good performance.
